Is It Summer Yet
@ 2009-07-02 – 16:16:14
Ok so today in this fair city of Glasgow we've had torrencial downpours, thunder no lightening and now the sun has come to say hello. I swapped the jeans and tee for a little summer dress,ok so the fact that the guys we're out cutting the communila grass with no tops on did'nt make me want to rush upstairs and change, due to weird weather my legs havent been shaved for a while (you cant quite plait the hair but its not far off it)
Me and the chair in the garden with a refreshing glass of summer fruits (nae wine finishd that last night) I love the sun and all it's warmth. Carebears currently sitting under a fan in the livingroom with her snots dripping off her nose and eyes streaming. So not only do i get peace to read in the garden i also don't have a mass of kids playing in my garden. Can i also add that i don't think i'm getting any strawberrys this year but the sunflowers that i planted in carebears wellies are looking fabbie doo -
Thats What I'd Like

The book i was reading was called The last song of the night tram, set in Glasgow's northeast of the city it was a young boys tale of his life growing up in the 40's in Maryhill. The author Robert Douglas managed to capture his youth brilliantly. See when you see those little kids playing in your street cursing and swearing, well it wsa liek that back then and probably alot worse since there was no computer games or t.v to get drawn into everyday. The adventures this guy had growing up with his mates ws superb.
I've had the book for a while now and never got round to reading it as i was told it was about the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father with some light humour thrown in for good measure. I only read it because i had finished my other book and didnt have anything at hand to read til i got a loan of the stand.
Anyhooos, the book did have a bit of belting round the lug from his old man but it didnt dominate the story line, what captured me was the relationship he and has mother had. The father wsa off to war and when he got discharged after the war his father joined up for another 5 years so he could be nearer his fancy bit. I was and still am a wee bit envious of the relationship he had with his mum, although i suppose relationships with your parents we're probably different then,no t.v to distract you no running up the stairs with your plate of dinner because you just have to finish killing some zombie in a game.Instead you sat at the table ate together, pushed back the table afterwards and have a wee dance round the room or sit by the fire listening to the radio tell a story or listen to the world service. The closeness they had was fab, going to the pictures or off for an icecream together, her teaching him to dance once he ws old enough to go dancing, him helping her with the bath down to the steamie. I think it captured me so much because i used to live at the foot of maryhill half a lifetime ago,so i could see the streets he was talking about, knew where the picture hall was etc. Plus it was wrote in Weggie so it was easy to be someone at the end of the street loking into his life.
Just thought i'd share that with you all -
School Holidays

Well its day 4 here in Glasgow for the holipops and its raining, complete downpour, to be fair it will be over in 5 minutes, people running out to there gardens colecting in there washing, kids screaming bcause they all have shorts on. The plants at least are geting a great watering. I'm trying to be organised for carebears return to school,i found out that i'm entitled to a clothing grant from the council of 70 quid, as theres so many shops closing down ive managed to get all her skirts shirts polo tops underwear for about 15 pounds so its only her shoes and bag left. So ickle me reacons that 70 will be put to use for a wee week away camping and that will cover the ground fee's and food. Might wait til the rain stops though, it's really weird the rain is stoating but yet the sky still looks blue.
