Just back from a few days camping at Thurston Manor which was bliss, not the site, just to get away for a few days was bliss. When i normally go camping i take a tent my little stove sleeping bag and hiking boots, this place was like a butlins holiday camp, leisure facilitys pub shop etc.My mother and her partner (doesnt seem right calling him her boyfriend) recently bought a caravan and invited my daughter and myself to go with them,i love camping so bags were packed before i even got off the phone lol.
on arriving to the site we tried to erect the awning where child and i were to sleep, within 5 minutes the team work was gone,i am a very independant person and have to admit i dont like men taking over my little tasks,i went in a huff and sat in the car because the man had nearly put a pole through my hand, came out my huff to tell him he had put it up wrong and suggested the correct way of putting it up,cue huffy man.the awning didnt fit the van,but me being me made it fit,the suckers were goosed and kept falling down so chewing gum to the rescue.middle pole fell down around midnight when the wind was high, not to worry we were at the side, got woke up about 3 in the morning with another support pole falling down on my leg,so day one was a complete disaster.
Day 2 i went exploring as i had heard they had a lake near a glen found it and was prety impressed so had a good walk around until child started moaning to go swimming so off we trotted to the swiming pool, when they say a heated pool i dont think -10 is very warm but after a few laps it was all good, went to the little family pub for a few games of pools and a few pints, funnily enough having a few drinks took my worry out of the awning falling on top of me in the middle of the night.
day 3 mummsie and partner took child away so i could have some time to myself, went for a sauna, steam room and swim then another walk to the lake where i found a little stream so followed that for about an hour, scenery was gorgeous and kicked myself for not bringing my hiking boots as there as some magnificent hills calling me to climb.back to the pub that night to watch celtic-rangers game, now being a celtic fan these games are important to me,imagine my fear when i worked out i was one of the few tic supporters in the place, found a friend in the barman who supports hibs so he was very kind to me and congratulated me on rangers defeat.
day 4 was packing up,lost all my finger nails,i often get asked if my nails are fake because of the length of them, there mine,i dont bite my nails, cut them etc i just let them grow til they break of there on accord, and all apart from 2 are sitting in a cig box waiting to be glued on as i cant do anything without my long nails.
Glad to say im home now had a proper shower couple of vodkas and looking forward to my bed tonight without the fear of a roof falling down.I will definetly just rough it the next time, for all it was good you cant beat the peace and quiet of the scottish highlands with lochs you can swim in,no children running around and the nearest pubs always 5 miles or more away so a good walk to sober up to and hills you can walk up without caravans obscuring your view of serenity
